Get the look even if you can’t get there!
If your plans are on hold for a summer of travel and exploration, don’t let it stop your imagination and design ideas for styling your home.
Ideas for a new scheme in your home can come from anywhere, but travel can be inspirational. Colours from a favourite place, flora and fauna, nature and views can all be a great starting point for an interior design scheme.
1. Colour Inspiration
Does the blue and white from pristine whitewashed Greek villages resonate with you?
Get the look with different shades of blue and add accessories to give your space added interest and texture.
2. Pattern and Design
Perhaps the design of a fabulous tile from Morocco could be your starting point for a new look in your home?
Our student was so inspired by the geometric tiles she saw on holiday, she created a mood board as part of her online interior design course with us.
Mood boards are a great way to experiment with your design choices, layout and proportion of colour.
Ever created a mood board? We’ll show you how on our online interior design courses!
Take inspiration from the natural materials of the world – terracotta from Spain, marble from Italy, slate from Wales and rattan from Asia.
These natural elements can also be a great starting point for a design scheme.
This student created a mood board, inspired by earthy tones. A great way to experiment with your proportions of colour and pattern, before committing to decorating!
Even the weather could inspire your styling choices!
Think about the colours and textures of a stormy sky, sunrise or a snowy Alpine scene.
Seeing a stunning sunset could be the inspiration for a fabulous harmonious living room scheme, as seen in this student’s colour mood board.
5. Flora and Fauna
An English summer evokes a sense of country idyll, with an abundance of flora and fauna, walking through a woodland or visiting historical English country houses.
If that look inspires you, then recreate it in your home with a bold wallpaper celebrating colourful blooms of roses, peonies and dahlias.
6. Miami Pink
Can’t get to Miami?
Then bring the famous Miami pink to you!
If this ‘on trend’ Miami look inspires you, add some pink to your decorating but don’t forget the all-important banana leaf!
