Student Success Story: Caron Burrows

Unlocking My Creativity Gave Me Back My Confidence

When Caron Burrows signed up for our Introduction to Interior Design course, she never dreamed that within 2 years she would be running her own design consultancy and re-styling one of Cheltenham’s landmark buildings.

Caron, a 51 old grandmother had always had a creative side with a passion for textiles, knitting and sewing, but had spent 25 frustrating years working as a finance and mortgage advisor.

Despite renovating her own home and helping friends, Caron lacked the confidence to pursue her dream of becoming an interior designer.

However, in 2013, she decided to unlock her creativity and enrolled on our most popular online course – An Introduction to Interior Design.

Caron Burrows with Tutors Anne Wall and Rachael Kilby-TyreInitially she was unsure about trying something new and whether she could manage the course as she worked full-time. But Caron loved the flexibility of the practical, hands-on course and quickly worked her way through the modules, discovering how to draw to scale, putting colour schemes together, understanding lighting design and how to create scheme boards.

She moved on to our Advanced Course, came to our one-day Business School and Caron soon developed the skills needed to give her the confidence to make it as a professional designer.

“Friends often told me I should be an interior designer” says Caron, “but I just didn’t feel brave enough”.

Since completing her course, Caron has worked on the re-styling of an iconic Edwardian Baroque building, Sixways Hall in Cheltenham and writes her own monthly interior design column for a local magazine.

“I am so glad I signed up for the interior design course. I am much more confident and it’s literally changed my life!” says Caron.
